problems getting live data

sometimes it works fine on other occasions i get the "establishing communications" message but nothing happens even after over 10 minutes. on each occasion i have successfully checked the module for faults prior to trying to check the live data. -

live data from OBD2 or brand specific scan data?
on MD701 .. I am only able to save live data with OBD2 v1.1 (v1.3 says it saves items..but when stop save = data are empty)
wrt brand specific live data (in my case Toyota).. It does not bring me past the vehicle identifical at all = complete dead end..but I hade a little extra file from my orginal SD card (FileSave.txt or something like that) which opens more specific menu options,..hex fields ... and live data and saving them (but have no clue on what it is that makes it behave like that and support have not responded w resolving clarifications)
